Update of Existing RACER Technologies

Updated Ordnance & Explosives Technologies

Two of the existing RACER ordnance and explosives (OE) technologies were reviewed and the engineering logic and algorithms were updated from RACER 2003 (version 5.0.0).  The updated OE technologies are:

  • OE Site Characterization and Removal Assessment – Revised algorithms to calculate correctly the duration and cost of the intrusive investigation activity and to add vegetation removal to the model.  Additionally, the size and make-up of Ordnance and Explosive Waste (OEW) teams were updated, and the site management algorithms were corrected.  Algorithms to calculate the costs of OEW demolition were also revised.

  • OE Removal Action – Revised production rates for Mag and Flag, Surface Clearance, OEW Removal, and OEW Destruction.  The size and make-up of OEW teams have also been updated.

 Updated Environmental Technologies

Several existing RACER environmental technologies were reviewed and the engineering logic and algorithms were updated from RACER 2003 (version 5.0.0).  The updated environmental technologies are:

  • Remedial Investigation – Revised algorithm to include costs for Move Rig/Equipment Around Site (assembly 33231178) when the user selects "Hollow Stem Boring" as the Subsurface Soil Sampling Method.

  • RCRA Facility Investigation – Revised algorithm to include costs for Move Rig/Equipment Around Site (assembly 33231178) when the user selects "Hollow Stem Boring" as the Subsurface Soil Sampling Method.

  • Site Inspection – Revised algorithm to include costs for Move Rig/Equipment Around Site (assembly 33231178) when the user selects "Hollow Stem Boring" as the Subsurface Soil Sampling Method.

  • Capping – Revised the Depth of Clay Layer and the Source of Clay fields for the Standard cap and the Asphalt cap to enable and disable as described in the help topics.

  •  Trenching mini-model (affects Bioventing, Oil/Water Separation, Storage Tank Installation, Soil Vapor Extraction and Trenching/Piping technology models) – Corrected the functionality so that the previously selected Soil Type is saved and displayed properly on the Trenching tab when the technology is reopened.

  • Bioslurping – Corrected an error in the database that caused Assembly 19010206 (3”, Class 200, PVC Piping) to be omitted from the estimate.

  • Restoration Advisory Board - Corrected errors in the database that caused Assembly 33220115 (Draftsman/CADD) and Assembly 33220104 (Senior Staff Engineer) to be omitted from the estimate.

  • UXO Active Range Planning - - Corrected an error in the database that caused Assembly 33040650 (Helicopter Rental - Chinook) to be omitted from the estimate.

  • Remedial Design (Detail Method) - Corrected an error in the database that caused Assembly 33220112 (Field Technician) to be omitted from the list when using the Technology search option on the Add Assemblies window.

  • Operations & Maintenance – Revised calculations for blower electricity usage and corrected the dry solids flow rate for dewatering of sludge.

  • Residual Waste Management – Added new screens and functionality to incorporate radioactive waste generated from the 6 new D&D models.  Roll-off boxes, B-25 shipping boxes, maritime containers, and cargo containers were all added to the Residual Waste Management technology so that users can also specify the transportation and disposal costs for the larger containers used in the new models.

Updated Sitework Technologies

Six of the existing RACER Sitework technologies were reviewed and the engineering logic and algorithms were updated from RACER 2003 (version 5.0.1):

  • Demolition, Buildings – Revised the help topic for ‘Demolition, Buildings Required Parameters’ to correct a typographical error in the metric unit of measure for building area.  Increased the maximum valid value for Demolition Factor to 2.0.  Corrected the unit of measure in the validation message for Non-hazardous Off-highway Distance.

  • Demolition, Pavements – The cost of removing unreinforced concrete has been corrected in the database so that the costs of removing rod reinforced concrete and mesh reinforced concrete are higher than unreinforced concrete.

  • Parking Lots – Revised the quantity algorithms for rough & fine grading (assemblies 17030102, 17030103, 17030106, 17030107, and 17030108).  The quantities for these assemblies are now calculated as the actual area to be graded, and not doubled by the number of passes.  Labor and equipment costs reflect the appropriate cost of either rough or fine grading per unit of measure.

  • Resurfacing Roadway/Parking Lots – Revised the algorithms so that rough grading (assembly 17030102) is only included for arterial roads, divided highways, and when gravel is selected as the existing surface for parking lots and access roads.  Revised the algorithms for rough grading of gravel roads to calculate the quantity as the actual area, since the unit prices for additional passes are accounted for within the labor & equipment costs.  Revised the quantity algorithms to eliminate the scarifying assembly (#17010521) for all road surface types.

  • Sanitary Sewer – Revised the Pipe Size/Type dropdown list to include reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) up to 48" in diameter.

  • Trenching/Piping – Assembly 17030902 Steel Sheeting, Install, Pull and Salvage, to 20 ft was missing when Sheeting Sidewall Protection was selected and the trench depth was greater than 15 feet.  This has been corrected so that this assembly in now included in the model.
