MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ============================================= The minimum system requirements for this software are: * Pentium 400 MHz Processor (600 MHz or above recommended) * 128 MB RAM (256 MB or above recommended) * 200 MB free hard disk space (500 MB or above recommended) * CD-ROM Drive * Microsoft Windows 2000, NT (Service Pack 5 or later), or XP Professional Operating System NOTE: Windows 98 is no longer supported * Microsoft Excel 2000 or XP (2002) DOWNLOADING RACER FROM THE FTP SITE ============================================= If you are downloading RACER 2005 from Earth Tech's ftp site, please follow these steps: 1. Create a new folder on your hard drive for the download file. 2. Navigate to the Earth Tech ftp site (ftp://ftp.earthtech.com) and login with the user name: racer and the password: racer. 3. Open the RACER 2005 folder and locate a file named Setup.exe. Download this file from the Earth Tech ftp site into the folder you created in Step 1. 4. If your firewall will not let you download an executable file, there is a zipped version of the software in WinZip format (Setup.zip). Save the Setup.zip file to the new folder on your hard drive and when downloading is complete, unzip the file into the new folder. A number of third-party products are available to perform this function. INSTALLATION ============================================= To install RACER 2005, the user must have sufficient administrative rights on the machine to permit software installation. Installation of RACER 2005 is handled by an InstallShield Wizard. To initiate the installation: 1. Close all other applications and backup your current RACER database before starting the installation. Note the name and location of your current RACER database. The database name is in the upper left-hand corner of the screen when RACER is open and is shown as RACER - Racer.mdb, where Racer.mdb is the database name. The database location can be found by opening the File menu, selecting Change Database, and using the Look In dropdown list to view the current database location. Write down the file path and database name. 2. Insert the RACER 2005 CD or double-click on the Setup.exe file that you downloaded from Earth Tech's FTP site. If you are installing RACER using the RACER 2005 CD, Setup automatically launches the InstallShield on most machines. If this does not occur, open the CD drive and double-click on SETUP.EXE. 3. Answer the questions prompted by the Setup program. For further explanation of the prompts, please refer to the "Installation Notes" that accompany the software in the Supporting Documentation folder. 4. The default RACER database location is under the user's directory in the C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Application Data\Earth Tech\RACER 7.0 folder. If you are using Windows NT, the default database location is in the C:\WINNT\Profiles\(user name)\Application Data\Earth Tech\RACER 7.0 folder. REGISTRATION NUMBER ============================================= You will be required to enter a registration number after installing RACER 2005 (version 7.0.0), even if you already had RACER 2003 or RACER 2004 installed on your machine. The registration number is located on the white label affixed to the RACER CD or was in the text of the email sent from Earth Tech giving ftp instructions. If you do not have a registration number because you used the ftp site to download the software and have not filled out a registration form, please contact Earth Tech as indicated at the end of this document to request a registration form. Once Earth Tech receives your registration form, Earth Tech will email you a registration number. VALIDATION KEY ============================================= You will be required to obtain a Validation Key after installing RACER 2005 (version 7.0.0), even if you already had RACER 2003 or RACER 2004 installed on your machine. Please contact Earth Tech as indicated at the end of this document to obtain a Validation Key. UPGRADING EXISTING ESTIMATES ============================================= When RACER 2005 is started up for the first time after installation, a blank database will be shown without any estimates. If you used RACER 2003 or RACER 2004 prior to this version and would like to switch to your previous estimates, select File, then Change Database on the main menu and use the Look in: dropdown list to navigate to the location of your most recent database, written down in Step 1 of the Installation Instructions. Please contact Earth Tech as indicated at the end of this document if you need to upgrade from RACER 2002 (or earlier). If RACER 2004 was the most recently used version, navigate to the default database location in the C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Application Data\Earth Tech\RACER 6.0 (or \RACER 6.1 if you installed the RACER 2004 Service Pack) and choose the most recent database. If you use Windows NT, the default database path is the same except for the beginning of the path (C:\WINNT\Profiles\(user name)\...). If you cannot see these folders, you will need to adjust your Windows Explorer settings so that you can see hidden files and folders. If RACER 2003 was the most recently installed version, navigate to the default database location in the C:\Program Files\ETIPrograms\Data folder and choose the most recent database. RACER will then bring in your estimates to RACER 2005. Repeat this process for each of your existing databases. Unit costs have been updated for this release of RACER and the user will have the option to update their project costs to the 2005 cost database at the end of the upgrade process. Please refer to the Installation Notes for further instructions. If you experience difficulty upgrading your estimates, it may be because the database is Read-only or because you do not have read/write privileges to the folder in which your existing estimates are located. Please see your system administrator for assistance. KNOWN ISSUES ============================================= The known issues in RACER 2005 are: 1. The Soil Type was not being properly stored and retrieved in the Trenching/Piping model in previous versions. This problem has been corrected, and previous estimates will use the default value. Please check your estimates and change the soil type as appropriate. Additionally, the technologies that used to have two Soil Type fields have been revised for only one entry field. Please rerun and check the Soil Type in any imported or upgraded estimates containing Bioventing or Soil Vapor Extraction. 2. Residual Waste quantities may not have been calculated correctly in previous versions during import and copy operations. You will want to ensure that the quantities are correct in RACER 2005 before running the Residual Waste Management Report or the Residual Waste Management technology model. You can do this by re-typing or re-selecting a secondary parameter in any of the following technology models used in your estimates: * Air Sparging * Bioventing * Decontamination Facilities * Discharge to POTW * Drum Staging * Excavation * Free Product Removal * French Drain * Groundwater Extraction Wells * Groundwater Monitoring Well * Heat Enhanced Vapor Extraction * In Situ Biodegradation (Saturated Zone) * Infiltration Gallery * Injection Wells * Monitoring * Natural Attenuation * OE Removal Action * Oil/Water Separation * Permeable Barriers * Petroleum UST Site Assessment * RCRA Facility Investigation * Remedial Investigation * Site Inspection * Slurry Walls * Soil Vapor Extraction * Soil Washing * Special Well Drilling & Installation * Storage Tank Installation * Trenching/Piping * UST Closure / Removal CONTACTING EARTH TECH ============================================= If you have any questions or comments about RACER 2005 (version 7.0.0), please contact us.
